Is it possible to print on these?

Post by Leadfoot »

I have had one of my top clients ask if I can print their logo on to molded vinyl barrel covers like these:

There will be a smooth side on two sides to print on but I have no idea if this is even possible.

That's different. It actually may be possible to screen print these with the proper pallet jig and inks. But most of this type of product would be pad printed these days I believe. That uses a rubber pad and an photo engraved plate to make images on many surfaces including those that are not flat.

Manual 1 color pad printers are available for small shops.

But basically if you want to screenprint them you’ll need to find an ink that will bond with the molded vinyl. It will be an air dry ink no doubt. Then you’ll need to figure out a way to get it under the screen consistently on some kind of a jig.

It might be attached to an existing pallet or you may have to get another pallet bracket and make something it can slide onto. That can be challenging if you have no fabrication or carpentry skills like me.... LOL :)

The person asking is a carpenter so making a jig would not be a problem, I am more concerned with what ink to use...these are used in paintball to cover the end of the barrel to prevent a stray paintball from nailing someone without a mask on...so it would have to be able to handle hard use in woods, put in pockets when not being used, etc...

If there is a way to ensure they don't crush you could use SinglePrint from RhinoTech ;) Requires a laser printer and heat press though.

They are hardened, they move a little but not much, not totally hard but mostly (make sense lol). You know I didn't even think about the single print. But since I already use their dry stencil I already have the Go Uno laser and heat press. :) But I have no clue how I could properly heat press them though being square...Thinking that screen printing them would be the best option IF I can figure out HOW. lol

Interesting idea Greg. But I think screen printing these would be best for this out of the two. The items may melt under the heat and pressure.

Give my buddy Ron a call at Integrity Print Supply. He can sell you the appropriate ink for this and he will be able to make sure it is what you need.

Tell him what you are doing and direct him to this thread to see the image. He should be able to get you the correct ink if you tell him exactly what the material is.

And use the Catspit code by phone too ;)
