What emulsion to use?

This section is all about screen making. This would include stretching, mesh prep, and coating the screens with emulsion. All related topics such as screen storage and trouble shooting for getting screens ready to expose.

What emulsion to use?

Post by P&POutdoors »

Hi,

Our business has just started to create our own t-shirts. We started out using the Speedball Emulsion, which worked okay at first but then became unreliable. It started wearing away at the edges of text after only a few uses, which gave smeared results on shirts. :(

So we're on the hunt for a new emulsion to use! I was thinking about trying the Saati Grafic HU emulsion. Is this emulsion user friendly? On Catspit's website, I read that this is good emulsion because it combines the qualities of both Diazo and SBQ emulsions. Has anyone tried it and have success with it? I would love to hear your opinions. Thanks for your help!

Also, does this emulsion require the sensitizer to be added into it? If so, does the sensitizer come with the purchase of this emulsion from the Saati Express website?

Again, thank you!

Hello there Jessica,

Thanks for signing up to the forum and posting ;)

Yes the Saati Graphic HU is a very good emulsion. This is a dual cure emulsion which will be forgiving with exposures and film positives. It should be easy to work with. It does require mixing a sensitizer into the emulsion base and it does come with the emulsion when you purchase it. Whether you buy a quart or a gallon it will come with the appropriate amount to sensitize the quantity you bought.

This emulsion will be good with plastisol, water based, solvent based and UV inks so it’s a great ink to use in a shop that uses different types of inks. It should have great resolution and a much lower tack than most dual cures.

Dual cure emulsions may last 1 to 2 months depending on storage conditions after the sensitizer has been mixed into the emulsion base. Sometimes they can last longer but typically they will get much slower as they age. Compared to photopolymer emulsions the Graphic HU will have a longer exposure time.

All of the Saati emulsions are top notch and will outperform many on the market. I always recommend Saati and MacDermid emulsions. Here is the Saati page where you can get the Catspit discount code:

I hope that helps out. Thanks for using the promo code for Saati. I appreciate the support very much!
