Direct To Film

This is the place to talk about what it takes to get started. This would include what equipment to buy, space requirements, electrical needs and anything related to getting ready to begin screen printing. Have a question regarding what it takes to screen print tee shirts? Please post them here...

Direct To Film

Post by BoydRiver »

Hi all,

I don't want to purchase a Direct To Fim printing machine as they ned volume to keep going.

I would like to try a print to see what its like, I have ben told that its similar to laser transfer paper (!)

HAs anyone used DTF transfers, if so what are they like, whats the hand like and is it an avenue to go down and get s supplier to print my artrwork onto film/

Thanks in advance

Boyd

I have used DTF like twice with a friend. He borrowed my heat press to do a couple of small DTF jobs. It was pretty easy to use and it felt like a very thin, soft latex heat transfer. I asked him about durability and he said 50 washes I think. I thought that was poor. I have plastisol ink screen prints on shirts that still fit me and they are from high school. These were like fleece sweatshirts and such that were a bit big for me at the time. The fabric is faded a bit but the print is as colorful and looking like the day it was printed.

So if the durability and wash safeness can match direct plastisol screen prints, then we may have a contender. Especially in the startup sector of our industry. You can use a heat press and DTF in a corner of a room in your home.

Thanks for replying jonathan.

50 washes1 but what would the print look like after that 50th wash?

I know some wold say 50 washes is a lot, but i have mountain T's with extremly detailed art that are 30 years old and look like I just bought them.

Plastosol tranfers remain king then for 4+ colour work for those with a small i screen press set up?
