Plastisol Inks are commonly used for screen-printing on to textiles or even garment printing and it must be heated to dry. After using plastisol ink for several years, I haven't experienced some thing bad about it.

Jon, really? we must use thinner to get water based inks to flow?... the thinner we use on home paintintg? I though I should use water, in Fact I´ve just used a discharge white ink I just bought like for a couple of months ago, and it seemed right but when adding the "salt" it turned thicker so I added some water, and worked fine, so should I use thinner instead of water?

Well here we are specifically talking about plastisol inks. And when we refer to a plastisol thinner it’s not paint thinner by any means. It’s much different.

With water based inks, which sometimes have other solvent carriers; I would purchase a “thinner” from the manufacturer of the water based ink you are using. Discharge ink is a different animal altogether and I would also recommend asking the manufacturer for the proper solvent to use for thinning purposes.

And “retarders” are added to water based inks to slow down the drying time if necessary.

1st of all, thnx for making such a wonderful informative website,,and ur videos r awesum.
After going thru various topics of ur forums and videos I hv finaly made up my mind 2 ask for ur help.
I have my own business in chemicals and recently I have entered screen printing ink market.
Now i need information on manufacturing of screen printing ink. After a small survey i found here 2 sorts of screen printing inks are sold in local markets,,people call them PVC and SS,,,may b by PVC they mean PLASTISOL,,since it is made from pvc only..dont knw wht ss stands for ,,may b solvent based,,here water based is not tht common.
Now since in local markets these r like trade secrets people r not tht keen to leek out info,!!..
kindly help me with raw materials needed in manufacture of these inks,,like raw materials needed and process,,and also the main machineries for such production. I also came across a video in youtube,,they r using something like triple roller and other staffs... help pls..

In the States we have plastisol, water based or solvent based inks for the most part. They can be for paper printing or textiles. I do not know what ink you are referring to in that foreign video. I cannot understand what they are saying. So I’m afraid I cannot be of much help.

I have a question, I'm using plastisol and I'm having a real hard time cleaning up the plastisol screens, the stuff just doesn't want to come off easily!

I have solvent which works well of I literally soak the screen, what can you recommend to get the job done easily?
