Catspit Film with Epson 1400

Post by Leadfoot »

I have been using the film from Catspit exclusively for the last two months or so. It is not waterproof but for general purposes and to save money it does the job! Here is how I am getting some good positives with the film with an Epson 1400 with standard color inks (not all black) from Cobra Inks:

Epson 1400 print settings:
Go to Advanced Settings
Ultra Premium Presentation Matte (or Ultra Premium Photo Paper Glossy worked too)
Photo RPM
High Speed unchecked
Grayscale checked
Edge Smoothing checked
Brightness 0
Contrast +25

I have seen some say to turn the saturation all the way up but with my settings I cannot change that. I get some good dense ink deposit, it is not solid black but is blocking the UV which is what matters. I get great screens (1/1 coat with PC-701 blue emulsion) with my 4 bulb table top unit and I only use one positive, no need to double it up unless you just want to.

This is what I have found works and you simply cannot beat the price of the film. With my small home based shop I have to cut costs where I can. This film as well as Jonathan and Catspit has been a God send!

I have to first say thank you very much for your kind words. That means so much to me. :P Second I really have to thank you for posting these tips on the Catspit’s Super Inkjet Film Positives.

I couldn’t ask for anything more than for you to post on such a topic and share what works best for you with your printer and the Catspit inkjet film. This is the kind of information we need to amass in order to help everyone in different situations.

Thank you so much for trying my inkjet film and posting your positive thoughts and tips on the product. :D

Does anyone else have any tips that you would like to share on the Catspit inkjet film positives?

And just to back up what I just said...this screen was done last night with one Catspit film printed with the above settings on an Epson 1400. Was slightly underexposed but still washed out nicely.

Picture is a bit blurry not the screen...crappy phone camera.

Your screen looks great. And you didn't even have to double up the film positives without using RIP software. Awesome! Here is a blog post that may help everyone working with film positives and no RIP software. And of course it will help with Catspit's Super Inkjet Film Positives too. If you have any trouble with Leadfoot's printer settings, take a look at this blog post and see if it will help you with your specific printer. But again some of these tips are relating to the Epson 1400 but there is a "color rich" tip anyone can use with any printer.

Good luck! :D
