How to relax mesh tension?

Post by thalo52 »

Is there anyway to relax or lessen mesh tension on an existing screen, 24x30. I would like to try to get less tension on a screen to allow greater flexibility over curved surfaces.

I have seen questions where people are concerned about losing tension with use of a screen, and therefore getting frames re-screened. I am looking to do the opposite. Any suggestions?

Do you know what the typical tension is for a new screen (200 mesh count) and can specific tensions be requested from screen suppliers or those that re-screen frames?

Usually 20x24 manual screens will be at about 18 to 20 Newtons tension. So based on your question about skate boards I would say you're not really going to be able to get a screen down to the lower tensions you may be looking for in order to conform to a skate board deck.

I would have a 23x31 automatic screen stretched at low tension to do what you're trying to accomplish. I'm not exactly sure what that tension would be however.

Thanks for the response. I am going to try and create some lower tension screens with some Newman frames.
