Using my rip...

Post by BigPapa68 »

Ok, so I recently bit the bullet and went full in on Illustrator and using my Filmmaker rip software since I paid so much for it. I got frustrated years ago trying to use it with little to no help on the web about it.

Well, I am getting the hang of it now and I was wondering about lpi count...

I have a design that has outlined text with white spot colors and inside the outline is a gradient, also spot color. When I send it to rip, do I need to set the white to any special setting before ripping it or can I use the same lpi that I use for the halftones?
The white is solid, no gradient.

Thanks again, still trying to learn as I go...

As long as all of the colors are spot, the RIP should see that and create dot for gradients and solid colors where there is no gradient. So if the white is a normal spot color there should be no need to do anything with it. In the AI print dialogue you can see what the RIP will see in the output where it shows the colors and settings at the bottom. There you would set the angle and LPI.

So basically if the file is set up properly, then all you really need to do is tell AI the angle and LPI. That's about it.
