Hi forum,
I want to have some actual experience behind a screen—preferably a number of months—before I buy any equipment, but all these screen printing jobs in Southern California require at least 1 year of printing experience. It’s a typical catch-22. I’m willing and able to work pro bono for a month or so to get myself into a printing job, but if I don’t end up actually getting the job then that would be a real waste of time. Is there a better way to gain experience as a printer?
Also thank you for the videos, Jonathan. Couldn’t find a good screen printing resource till I found Catspit.
best,
adam

Not as far as I know. Usually screen print shops start people in the screen making area and train them as they go. But it is true that many shops will look for experienced screen printers. You would have to try and fine a shop that is willing to train.
