Newbie looking for advice.

Post by FightingBears »

Hello all!

So I am hoping I've come to the right place, I'll give a little background on where I am at and what I am looking to do.

So I have a few years experience with Photoshop, mainly photo manipulation and editing and I just recently acquired CorelDRAW Graphics Suite x6 as I am looking to start designing art work for use in screen printing.

Basically I have been offered a job as a designer in a print shop starting in the new year including training on the software that they use there (Photoshop, Illustrator and CorelDRAW) but I would like to get a head start and learn what I can before I get there.
So with that being said I see that the majority of screen print related artwork is vector which I have very limited experience with so I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction as to where I should start as unfortunately I have a habit of trying to run before I can crawl for example I've been looking at half tones and such before I even know anything about spot colour.

Eventually I do plan on getting into the printing process too as I love the hands on part and it seems so satisfying to see an image you have created materialized on a product.

Regards,

Mike

Okay I don’t have much for you on this. I teach mainly the screen printing part of the process because I am no expert at Illustrator or any other graphic software for that matter.

However I have created some simple videos about artwork that will at least give you the basics of what you need to learn and how you’ll need to set things up. But it will in no way prepare you for what you are about to take on.

Check out these video playlists:

This video may help too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpG7dzpuO80

That may help you out some. Good luck!!
