Artwork options

Post by drew »

Hello guys, my brother and I need a little help with turning 72 dpi images into 300 dpi. We currently use an old version of Photoshop to create a new layer and recreate the image using the pen tool. that takes hours and hours for my brother to complete. Is there a faster, better way to do this besides obviously starting with better quality images? The last 2 color job took him 15+ hrs to complete and I'm nervous about getting new business while he's still working on the current job.

Via the toolbar, you should be able to click "Image > Image Size..." and change the DPI (or pixels/inch) settings there.

Does that clean it up enough to use for screen printing? Its possible I'm being way to picky about the image quality but I don't want to use anything that doesn't have crisp, clean edges when you zoom in on it.

It depends on what you're doing, really. Unless you have to do a LOT of up-scaling, it's probably not going to be noticeable. For line-art, you could just do your color separation then auto-trace it into vectors with something like Inkscape. For stuff that's more photo-realistic that needs halftones, just make sure to play with your "curves" adjustment to improve the contrast and density after you up-size it and before you sent it to your RIP or halftone plugin.

With a more specific example of the kind of source image you have, the end product you're aiming for, and the tools you've got at your disposal, we'd probably be able to offer more specific advice. Hope it helps!

Google "Photo Zoom Pro" and see if that suits your needs.
