Screens

Here you can discuss issues related to exposing screens for screen printing. This includes determining the exposure, light sources and washing out the stencil in the washout booth. Emulsion issues may also be addressed here.

Screens

Post by Reavesse11 »

I have been using capillary film to get started printing. After I burn my screens, I try washing them out but the edges seem to be hazy. I looked and all my screens I have tried has this emulsion on it. It's like little flaps that move but won't fall off. Is this caused by the light bending and exposing some the the emulsion under the artwork?

Yes, you could be choking the stencil by using too long of an exposure time. Also see my reply to your similar question about artwork in the Creating artwork section.

With an extended exposure time light will begin to bounce around the edges of the image on the film causing the stencil to shrink or “choke.” This will also cause loss of detail.
