Screen washout help

Post by Lottie05 »

After I take my screen from the exposure kit,and I'm ready to washout the design, can I use a spray bottle and wet the screen first and then take the screen to my kitchen sink and wash the design out under regular light? Or once I take it from the kit it has to stay in the yellow light room. I'm working in my garage and that's my darkroom, but I would like to washout the design in my kitchen using regular light

This I'm not too sure about. Wetting the screen is supposed to stop the exposing process, but I always do my washout in a light safe environment. My advice would be to continue doing your washout in light-safe conditions, and then once you're getting consistently good screens that way, try wetting it, letting it develop for 10-20 seconds, then carrying it into your kitchen and see what happens. Best to eliminate as many factors as possible ;)

It's always best to washout in a light safe environment but it is possible to do it like you are asking. Just be quick about it. But if you have a lot of detail or halftones it will be more difficult for sure. If you have to do it your kitchen I suggest NOT having the closest light on, such as the one above the sink if you have one there. And maybe cover the window if you have one.
