How Do You Store Your Film Positives ?

Hi Guys,

Just wondering how do you stored your film positives after been used. I have my films in a USPS box all mix and messy. (I'm lazy)

Every time a have to use one of them again is a pain to find them and worse when they are 2, 3 or 4 colors job.

I know some people use lateral filing cabinets. It's a normal cabinet, just a lot wider.

I've been trying to come up with something workable that's also space-friendly. Off hand, I'd consider looking for some 13x19" art portfolio/folders like these: http://www.dickblick.com/items/15019-1013/

They're pricey, but there should be some off-brand version available somewhere for a bit cheaper. Something like that which can store multiple 13x19's with dividers for organizing would be a decent start I'd think.

Yeah many of the solutions for this are very expensive like medical filing systems or real genuine art filing cabinets with the giant flat drawers. Those take up a lot of space as well as money. The best solution I have seen is a small flat rack system much like a screen rack but with full shelves. You can have 26 shelves for each letter of the alphabet.

You can build it out of wood and make the shelves as big as you output film. Then label A-Z and sort your film out by alphabet. It’s not the best solution but it will help you save some time and be more organized without breaking the bank.
