Curing ink without conveyor unit

Here you can discuss any issues related to working with plastisol screen printing inks. This would include curing, mixing colors, additives, brands, usages and much more.

Curing ink without conveyor unit

Post by BillyStJohn »

Is it possible to cure plastisol ink without have a conveyor heating unit? For example could you cure the ink with just the flash cure unit?

Absolutely you can use a flash dryer. That's how I do it at the moment as I'm waiting for my conveyor dryer to arrive.

Same here, BBC Black Flash for me. Limits what I can do but I like to keep things simple since I have a small set up anyway. Have to work my way up to the full conveyor! :)

Tee stooge, i use a flash dryer and keep a very close eye on the temp using a temp gun. As long as the ink gets to 330 degrees it should be cured fully. Its very easy to scorch 100% cotton though. I wouldn't let it get much over 330.

To expand on Drew's comment. Yes 330 is the magic number but you need to be certain it reaches that all the way through the print, not just the surface. If you have multiple layers of ink, let it cure for a bit to ensure that temp has reached the base layer.

thanks for all the replies. how far is your flash dryer from the garment? I think I will have to invest in a better flash dryer. the one I have does not seem to dry the whole image the same.

I keep mine about 1 half an inch off the garment surface right now but I have a thermostat and I only flash with my unit.
