TOUR SHIRT WALKTHROUGH - Part 8 - Note on inks

Post by upperhandprinting »

On this job, we decided to order custom Pantone matched quarts. We were on a bit of a time crunch and thought this would be easier. We ended up having to "edit" these inks a bit by adding black to them. If you're going to order custom ink, I would highly recommend getting a coated Pantone swatch book. Yes, your computer has them on there and there are even guides to correct for monitors. But it's still not the same thing. If you don't have a book, save yourself the trouble and just mix them by eye. Your eyes are really your greatest tool and you have to learn to trust them, even when mixing inks that you want to be perfect.

The Walkthrough will conclude in the next part. I'll put it under "General", because I can't think of where else to put it.

I like to order special colors as well or go straight from the bucket whenever possible. Once in a while I’ll mix something or add black to an ink to tone it down a bit as you did. Nice tips on the Pantone book and using your eye. I think I would have to agree.

And computer monitors totally differ from one to the next. The color configuration or profile you have running on the monitor driver will also affect the colors you see so you hit that dead on. In the end even a swatch book for plastisol stock colors can be a little off. It’s always good if you can see the ink itself.

Nice. Thanks again for posting this set of posts. They are very cool.
