Tape Residue

Hello everyone. I've been on the road, and I apologize for my absence from the forum. Anyway, here's what I'd like to discuss.
I did a 6 color print job for my band right before we left on the tour. With doing tour shirts that are dated, it's a big guessing game. You don't want to do too many and be stuck with shirts no one will want after the tour is over, but you also don't want to run out either. So, we decided on a number and went with it. Because I'm printing the shirts, we decided to leave the job on the press. That way when we had our week break, before we went out on the second leg, we could easily print more if we needed. Well. They've been selling, but I think our original number is going to work just fine, so I've moved on to other jobs and decided to reclaim the screens. This is where I've ran in to issues.
I taped the inkwell side of the screen, as well as 3 sides of the substrate side. Then a final piece of tape on the bottom to block my registration marks. I printed the job, left for 2 weeks and came back to it. I know that leaving it set up is going to make cleaning and reclaiming more fun than normal, but it's been a nightmare. The tape has left a really bad residue on the screen. When I try to clean it off, it wants to get stringy, smear, and then block other parts of the screen. So. 2 questions.
Does anyone know any ways to get this off without damaging the glue used to attach the screen to the frame?
Does anyone know what may have caused this? The only thing I can think of is tape being on both sides of the screen and holding on to each other for those 2 weeks has made it hard to remove. Or while I was printing the job, the flash dryer sitting under the frames caused the tape adhesive to heat up and kind of "seep in" to the mesh. Any one have any guesses?
I've never had this issue before, and I'm guessing its a mixture of things coupled with the fact that I let them sit for two weeks. I've managed to clean a few, it's just taken hours. I would love to be able to avoid this in the future.
Thanks!!
