Re: Ink on Koozies
Yes, that would be called dot gain caused by either too much pressure on the flood and stroke or it can just happen over longer print runs from ink build up around the stencil edges. So on long print runs we might wipe the screens down every so often to keep the detail.ppdlao wrote:Nice explanations about Koozies, cool posts "UpperHandPrinting" !!!
Jon, reading at your post:I use to do that, not flooding, just taking the ink with the stroke when printing "halftoned" printings, because of my still poor flood & Stroke technique, if I do the flood and stroke method when printing very detailed "halftoned" images, usually the printing somehow "looses" it´s details, the detail "dots" start to look fussy or like "ink overloaded"... any coments? printing halftoned images?Catspit Productions wrote:Be careful not to flood the screen too much before the stroke and maybe try printing without a flood by just taking the ink with the stroke.
thnks Jon, tnks guys
Printing halftones manually is a challenge and you need to figure out just the right flood and stroke while trying to be as consistent as possible throughout the print job.

I like that tip about not flooding when printing koozies. I'm going to try that next time and compare prints closely. It'll probably be soon. When I do I'll let you know what I found.

Nice, yeah I found sometimes to keep detail if you have the right mesh and a decent ink you can just take some ink with the squeegee either way you stroke and print the design to maximize resolution.
Let us know if it works for you for sure.

Re: Ink on Koozies
I got some koozies off eBay to try, can and bottle ones. The can koozies took the ink a lot better than the bottle ones did. I did not add anything to my ink (Excalibur Arctic White) and there was no bleeding on the can koozies. The bottle ones had a slight bleed but nothing major. I probably could have hit them one more time to put down another layer but didn't. The logo has so much detail I didn't want it to smudge or anything.
I used a 155 mesh screen and I was amazed at how little squeegee pressure I had to use.
