What is the best paint for hand printing t-shirts?

Post by Andrew »

I want to make hand print t-shirts for the grandparents and then have my kids hand prints all over the shirts. Just wondering what kind of paint would work best and not wash out. Anybody can suggest me?

I would probably suggest using a water-based screen printing ink for textiles. They should be relatively harmless to the user and once they are heat set they will be washable and laundry safe. However many water-based inks need to be heat set between 150°F and 250°F depending on what type and what brand of water-based ink you are using.

Jantex is a good brand of water-based ink and our newest vendor on the Print Supplies page of the Catspit website carries their inks. So if you want to try them out you can get them at a discount using the Catspit promo code online check out.

If you have any questions about the ink you can call them directly and speak with them about the ink to make sure it is safe for your application and get the exact cure temperature for heat setting. The new vendor is called Screen Printing Superstore and they are offering a 5% discount to Catspit customers. You can find their information here:

I have also created a forum for them so you will be able to ask questions about their products there as well. But today is their first day on board so I have not even created their first post for their forum yet.

Do you work for Goldstar? Just wondering why you didn't ask them. Let me know if you have any other questions that I might help you out with. Good luck and have fun. I hope the Catspit website and YouTube channel have been helpful to you. ;)
