off contact

Post by halmi »

HIthere... thanks for all the much needed info in this forum..

i have questions regarding the "off Contact" u mentioned in several of your vids...
i tried printing on shirts with the technique several times but the ink ended up bleeding on the sides of the image especially when printing on shirts with textures (honeycomb etc.)
do u have a specific measurement for the distance between the screen n the shirt?

thanx in advance

You’re welcome; it’s my pleasure to help out in any way.

Not quite a specific measurement although a 1/8th on an inch to 1/16th on an inch would be ideal. But that can be very hard to achieve on a rear clamp press especially. So the general rule is lower is better than higher. But it will all depend on your press, pallets, and screens if you can achieve optimum results with off contact.

Everything works together and if your mesh is loose or your pallets are warped then you will always have issues even if they are intermittent.

Here is an article on the website about off contact:

Good luck and let us know how you make out. I hope this helped a bit. Thanks for posting!

Well it is first a technical process, an equation or formula if you will. Then it is also a fine art or a skill, perhaps talent in some cases. There is no single way to get a good print. I have seen people do things I could never do the same way in my shop for some reason. It’s just how it is... LOL
