Positive printing with rough edges

Post by Leadfoot »

The last few positives I have printed with my Epson 1400 and catspit film the edges have been ragged, not sharp, straight and smooth like they are in my graphic design software. Any idea where the breakdown is?

Check your printer quality settings and use Photo Premium Paper Glossy, Best Photo, Photo Enhance and then in advanced options turn off high speed. If that does not work then the file is too low resolution for the size you are printing. Here is the blog that gives tips to these tweaks and more for Catspit’s film positives:

You could also try cleaning the heads. And make sure you are not laying down too much ink with too high of a quality setting. Let us know what you discover.

It is quite possibly resolution though the stuff I create is all in 300 dpi. I also turn off high speed. Crazy because before things were printing great and just now noticed it.

300dpi should be sufficient I think. There must be something strange with the image file. Send it to me and I’ll have a look and see how it prints out on film for me. ;)
