general heat press questions
I'm looking into buying a heat press. My question is, if I was to buy a 16 X 20 and I wanted to do a youth shirt, could I do it on that pallet? Does the garment go on the pallet like it would on a screen printing press or could I just lay the entire shirt on the pallet at once. It would be for heat transfer, not sublimation. Its probably a silly question but don't have any experience with heat presses yet

That is plenty big for youth apparel. Most adult sized designs fit on that as well. I usually just lay the garment on the pallet. Using a teflon heat pillow will help to ensure there aren't top pallet edges marks left on the shirt once pressed. Also good for collars and seams. There are times I do wrap the garment around the pallet like you would on a screen printing pallet.

Apeshirt has it. For adult sizes you can load the shirt onto a heat press pallet as you would a textile screen printing press. But you do not have to. So for youth or smaller ladies and women’s sizes you can do like Greg says and lay it on top of the pallet entirely.
If you wanted to load small garments like a tee shirt press you would need a smaller heat press. But I wouldn’t think that is necessary unless you had a specific reason.

Re: general heat press questions
I'm thinking of starting with the Rhino Tech dry stencil system and am shopping heat presses. I wonder if any heat press would work. Seems as if you'd need room to drop the back edge of your screen frame below the main lower board of the press. Does anyone know if they are all built that way? Thanks.

Re: general heat press questions
I’m not sure if that is a big issue. You only need a 2.5 to 3 inch space to fit the frame edge over the back of the pallet. I think most heat presses of any larger size like 16x24 and such will have that gap. So far I have not encountered a heat press that will not fit a screen on it but you never know.
It’s always good idea to check these things out. You can always call the manufacturer and ask about the space at the back of the heating element and pallet.
