2 color Gradiant color seperation?!?
Ok I have a few designs that a friend wants me to do for him the only problem is. It's original a water color painting. So I dont know how to color seperate the colors when they mix and blend together causing a 2 color gradiant pretty much. Is there a way to halftone both colors out so that the 2 colors mixing lets say like a yellow and red and will make a orange where they meet? please help me. I also dont have hundreds of dollars to drop on any more programs i have photoshop and illustrator. Please
help me...

I have Simple Seps that would do that but haven't mastered it yet. In the meantime, I got a guy that separates for $30.

Yup, you can totally do that. You can use Illustrator and RIP software to output the halftone film positives. If you don’t have RIP software or can’t afford it then use a service like ApeShirt suggests. You may need to get film done depending on the files they can give you.

Dang, thats a bummer. I'm not a big printer that can afford 30 bucks a separation. I want to be self reliant. I have adobe illustrator or photoshop. so can some one please send me a tutorial link to how to do it?

I’m not sure of any tutorial that will cover everything to be universal on any artwork. In other words there may be some video tutorials that discuss halftone gradients but will it be specific enough for your requirements I wouldn’t know.
You’ll need RIP software to output a halftone as well so no tutorial will help if you don’t have that. Unless you can find one on Photoshop and the color seps it can do which used to be bit map. I know older versions of PS can do halftones but they are not as high quality as those you will get with AI and RIP. However I have seen some people do great halftones with PS too.
I have a lot of great artwork and printing videos in my favorites. You just have to take a little time to look through them and search. There are videos in there about color separations that you may find helpful:

I always pass any art charge along to the customer. Even if a friend wants something done and I have to outsource the art they are going to pay for it, not me.

In Illustrator, working in CMYK with CMYK color sliders you can specify which 2 "spot" colors to use to make your custom gradient, use 2 channels of the C,M,Y,K, leave the other two color chanels blank. Set your screen frequency in the printer separations dialogue box, set the dot shape , de-select use printers default halftones, select-use accurate screens. These are only some and not all of the custom options of the postscript RIPS that may help you make your separations and screen angles. The extended options are in Photoshop under the print with preview option....peace
