500 watt halogen light Question

Here you can discuss issues related to exposing screens for screen printing. This includes determining the exposure, light sources and washing out the stencil in the washout booth. Emulsion issues may also be addressed here.

500 watt halogen light Question

Post by Meatsack »

Fresh newbie here and had a couple of questions. I've done alot of Google searching and can't seem to find a good answer. 1. When using a 500 watt halogen light at 16 inches above screen will the emulsion get too hot and have trouble burning or washing out? If so I've seen lots of people suggesting different heights from 10 inches to 2 feet. So I figured I'd ask the experts here what a good distance would be if heat even is a factor or if my current 16 inches above a 20x24 screen is good to low or what. 2. Also I been watching a lot of the catspit videos and I just wanted to say out of all the other random screen printing tutorials you seem to really know what's what. No bs or strong marketing. Which in this day and age is a rare thing and just wanted to say thank you for helping the lone people such as myself trying to learn for fun. I hope you understand what a big deal that is to the average joe. Keep up the good work. Thanks for reading and answering.

I always suggest at least 18 to 24 inches to be sure the emulsion does not get hot. I have also seen some people use a fan to cool the screen during exposures.

Thank you! Nice to know you enjoy my work. Thanks for watching my videos, you’re very welcome. I’m glad I can help out through them. I appreciate your taking the time to let me know how my video work has helped you out.

Thanks for getting back to me and your welcome. Sorry been on a vacation. Last question what happens when the emulsion gets to hot during the exposure? Meaning what are the risks?

You're welcome! If the emulsion gets too hot, it will harden and cure. That will ruin the exposure totally.
