Emulsion issues

Here you can discuss issues related to exposing screens for screen printing. This includes determining the exposure, light sources and washing out the stencil in the washout booth. Emulsion issues may also be addressed here.

Emulsion issues

Post by Jimdi77 »

We got a gallon of HiFi emulsion and when it arrived it had the consistency of paste and wasn't usable at all. We got ahold of Ryonet and they sent us a gallon of Dual Cure Diazo to replace it. They said that happens once in awhile. Well...the new gallon we got came just perfect and we used it once and after two weeks it turned to paste also. What is going on? It is hot in Fresno but there are several shops here so if it is a heat issue where is everyone keeping their emulsion when it's not being used? Could Ryonet have had a truck load of bad emulsion and now they are shipping it everywhere?

Just grasping for straws because we have lost two gallons of emulsion and as you all know it's not cheap.

Thanks

Interesting. I don’t really know what will happen if emulsion cooks on a truck. If it gets too hot it will cure and harden. If it freezes it will also turn into a pasty unmixable blob of a mess. Store emulsion in temperatures between 70 and 85 degrees F. I would say that is a very safe zone to store in. But what you describe is unusual and there must have been an issue with the emulsion from either the factory or the dealer. It is possible it happened during transit but twice and with such differences?

If you buy emulsion from Catspit and it does not work for some reason, which is highly unlikely, I would replace the emulsion with the exact same emulsion until you have a good working gallon of emulsion. In other words I make sure you get what you pay for and it works. Try me out one day ;)

I only sell kick ass emulsions so these will work like no others you have tried. Our house blend is the Textile PC blue which is a photopolymer. I use it in most all of my videos.
