I could have talked about this in the section about separations, but I did it here because it relates to mesh count. When I halftoned the image, I looked at what screens I was going to use and then halftoned it with that information in mind. The red and orange layers had the most halftones, so I decided to use my 305 mesh on those two screens. The other two colors had some halftones but not many, so I used the highest mesh I had which happened to be 195. Then for my white underbase, I again used the highest I had which was a 160. In retrospect, I would've loved to use 305 on all of the screens, but that wasn't possible so I did what I could.

When I set up the halftones, I did 45 lpi elliptical dots on the 305 meshes, and 35 lpi on the 195 and 160 meshes.

How did you work out what eliptical dot size to use please, is there a formula you follow?
