Heat Transfer Advice - Getting Started

Post by Catspit Productions »

You need a basic understanding of how the different transfer methods work and how a design will replicate with any given process. First, I would learn about the different processes and then decide which ones you may want to work with. A good place to start is the Catspit website:

I encourage you to read those articles. They are a great introduction to heat transfers. For any heat transfer process, it is important to know its limitations. It may even be beneficial in the end to use multiple heat transfer methods to best suit the needs of the customer and produce the best quality shirt.

You will need a computer, laser or inkjet printer or other device like a plotter, a heat press and perhaps some cutting tools like Exacto blades, scissors, paper cutter and perhaps dental picks for weeding vinyl transfers.

For heat transfers I recommend the RiCOMA heat presses. You can find them on the Catspit website for your research endeavors. But the quality of your product will greatly depend on your skills as a garment printer. The machine you use just helps you make a better product and makes the job easier. Normally, the better the machine, the easier it is to print. I like RiCOMA because they balance function, quality and price very well.

For inkjet printers I recommend Epson:

Check out the transfer info and let me know if you have any further questions. Good luck!
