Septic Safe Emulsion Wash

This is the place to talk about what it takes to get started. This would include what equipment to buy, space requirements, electrical needs and anything related to getting ready to begin screen printing. Have a question regarding what it takes to screen print tee shirts? Please post them here...

Septic Safe Emulsion Wash

Post by Bartjy »

Hi Folks,

I'm on a septic system, so I need to know if there is such a thing as septic safe emulsion wash. I'm new to silk screening, so I'm not sure I'm using the correct term. I'm talking about stuff that is used to remove the emulsion from the screen. Also, is the removed emulsion septic safe?

Thanks
Bart

Hello Bart,

Yes, you can use the entire Rhinotech Green line of chemicals.

They are biodegradable, user friendly, septic tank and leach field safe. I need to add that to the product descriptions actually. Not sure why I didn't in the first place :?: LOL...

Here's a playlist featuring all of their environmental screenprinting products:

I forgot to ask. Are there inks that are septic safe?

Thanks

You're very welcome.

There may be some truly organic water based inks but it's the pigments that are the issue mostly. Usually we use a filtration unit for removing small soluble particulates.

But you can clean ink with rags and solvents. Then you allow the rags to dry by evaporation or cure them in the oven. Once dry and hardened, it can be safely disposed of as solid waste. So you don't necessarily have to wash inks down the drain.
