Best Ink for Cassette Tapes

Post by rockitprinting »

Hello Catspit Forum!

I have a question that I am unable to find the answer to online. I just started up and someone asked me about printing on their audio cassette tapes. I know this is usually a pad printing process, but I think they can be screen printed too.

Does anyone know what type of ink should be used for this?

I've found some pad printing inks online that are enamel based, but no one really says "Hey, you can print on cassettes with this ink" so I'm confused.

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. If Catspit can help me, I'll buy the ink here.

Thanks for the videos and help.

I'd considered this very thing a few months back but never attempted it myself. Ideally you would want something that air dries so you wouldn't have to hit the cassette shells with heat and risk melting them. Plus, the cassette surface isn't totally flat, so you're probably going to have some issues getting everything lined up correctly. If you're determined to attempt it, you'd probably want to look into a UV-cure or solvent ink like the Nazdar 7900 series - or something similar to what you'd use to print on a coroplast sign. Jonathan may have some more insights. Regardless, if you try it, let us know how it works!

Yeah these should be pad printed but I think a vinyl ink or a coroplast type ink as Andy suggested would work. When in doubt call an ink manufacturer up directly. They should be happy to assist and direct you where to buy the appropriate inks.
