Buying my first 4 color. Question about "side registration"

This is the place to talk about what it takes to get started. This would include what equipment to buy, space requirements, electrical needs and anything related to getting ready to begin screen printing. Have a question regarding what it takes to screen print tee shirts? Please post them here...

Buying my first 4 color. Question about "side registration"

Post by JAYP »

Hey there,

I am looking into my first press for printing shirts & this 4 color I'm looking at locally has "side registartion" and no micro registration. Can someone give me some input as to whether or not I should hold off on the unit with side registartion and wait for a unit that provides regular micro registration or do you think the side registation will work decent for what I need.

BTW, I'm only running basic designs out of a garage location and don't plan to be doing many large runs for many outside customers JUST yet so a press upgrade in the future is an option & would probably be in order I'm assuming with the side registration unit.

Thanks,
JP

I personally prefer rear clamps. But if the unit has side clamps and it has micro registration then as long as it is in good working order it should do the trick.

So the question here really is about the condition of the machine. Remember a manual screen printing press looks like a simple machine but it is a precision instrument. If it is off in any way it will give you troubles when printing multi colors.

So check it out well and see that it is in excellent shape. Using side or rear clamps is normally a preference choice.

Also noticed that you said the Vista series can be changed be upgraded at any time. I was thinking about getting a 2/1 for a start but am sure I am going to want to step it up after a bit. Want to get a package but not sure what is gona fit my needs if you can give me some advice that would be awesome.

Hello and thanks for joining the forum. I appreciate that.

Yes all of the RANAR presses can be configured as rear or side clamps. Some people prefer side clamps but they can restrict screen size for certain applications. It’s really a matter of preference but if you ask my advice I would recommend the rear clamp set up.

The Vista series presses may be upgraded from a 4/1 to a 4/4 to a 6/4 and finally a 6/6. But the table top presses as far as I know would not be upgradable. The 2/1 is a bench top press. So in order for you to be upgradable you would have to start with at least a 4/1 floor press.

I’m not sure which kit to recommend to you but here are the RANAR kits on my ecommerce site. I would need to know more about what you want to print and what your end goals are along with your budget.

There are also Catspit Kits.

Feel free to give me a call anytime and I’ll be happy to help you out and give you the best advice based on your specific needs.
