T-shirts

This is the place to talk about what it takes to get started. This would include what equipment to buy, space requirements, electrical needs and anything related to getting ready to begin screen printing. Have a question regarding what it takes to screen print tee shirts? Please post them here...

T-shirts

Post by KBT's »

Sorry Johnathan I dont see a topic area for T-shirts so i am posting it here. You said your get yours from your brother in NY and local. Iam in Tucson AZ. I do this in my garage on the side for fun and extra cash. My biggest problem is getting a good deal on Ts. I have been using jiffy shirts lately and I use T shirt wholesalers dot com as well. Shipping is the big thing now that is why i have moved to Jiffy. The same with SPS the shipping is getting high. I shop around to save on the shipping. You may want to post a tread where every one can post shirt suppliers. If your brother has a good deal i can throw business his way too. Any way keep up the good work I love your vids. I would like to see one on making films with AI for gradient half tones, unless you have one I have not found yet.

Thanks again

Hey KBT’s,

Actually SPS does have some blank shirt vendors on their site but I do not know about the shipping details for those divisions. SPS itself gives free shipping on orders over $100 and a flat rate of $7.95 on orders under $100. Like SPS said some drop shipping costs may apply.

Eventually I may feature an online blank wholesale shirt vendor but pricing and free shipping will depend on your purchase quantities as it does with any garment vendor. In order to get free shipping and reduced pricing on shirts from most garment vendors you’ll need to buy a lot of product yearly.

You can’t get volume pricing and free shipping on very small orders or low yearly volumes.

Feel free to message SPS for details on shipping and their featured shirt vendors.

all i see is different divisions for shirts, I have looked at all of them and the T shirt wholesale was the best price that i saw. I don't see anything for free shipping over $100.00 for them. Post a link if you can I would use them all the time, I hardly ever order under a $100.00

Thanks

Ken,

Getting free shipping will require a certain quantity order not a certain dollar amount. Volume gets you volume pricing and free shipping but normally there will be no purchase amount limits that will get you free shipping on blank garments because the garments themselves can vary in cost greatly. Therefore it would be a very high dollar amount for it to apply across the board to all of the types of garments any given blank vendor sells, savvy?

Normally it takes years of doing large volume business with an out of State blank garment vendor to get volume pricing and free shipping. My brother in NY gets the lowest pricing and free shipping because he has been buying shirts from the same vendor for over 25 years.

Im in Idaho and we have a craft store here called Michaels. I am on an email blast thing with them and at least once a week they send me coupons for the store. Most are specific to a product but theres always at least a 20% off for whatever. They have a decent section of t shirts which are $3.99 each. Plus the coupons. Plus no shipping. The brand they sell is Jerzees. All in all I like Jerzees. The neck hole is slightly larger than other brands which I dont care for but other than my self I have never heard any one say they feel the same way. Michaels also do a shirt sale once a mo. or so and with the extra % off from the coupons I get shirts, in any color, even black, for $2 each. I have yet to find an online place where I can beat $2. If any one knows of one let me know. I have got a couple business thingees like a dba and ein but every time I try one of those wholesale sites where you have to enter all your license info. it seems Im missing something and dont qualify. For my city I am legal, not gonna get extra stuff just to see what a site offers, unless maybe some one can tell me if I am really missing something from not getting into the so called "wholesale" sites?? I mean is there really a site that can beat $2 each with no shipping costs?, and not just white shirts?

It can be difficult to source shirts. That’s a pretty good deal but it must be a little inconvenient to have to wait for sales and use coupons. I can tell you that you will pay more for dark garments if you buy lower quantities of a halfway decent brand. Most of the time to get free shipping and special rates you’ll need to do a certain amount of business with your wholesaler to qualify. So if you are a small shop buying smaller quantities then you may find it difficult to find the pricing you seek.

I can’t say what is wrong with your business papers or numbers if you can’t get wholesale online. I think you need a City tax privilege license for resale and such. You would have to call a place that denied you to find out what the issue is for sure.

I did once, and youre right it was a tax thing. Retailers tax office commission permit something or other. What was odd to me is that it just means I dont pay taxes when I buy wholesale blanks, 'cause Im gonna charge it to a customer. So what if I dont have it when I buy from you, just charge me tax, and Ill get it back when I sell. I dont know, it seemed a weird deal to me. but I just havent got around to getting it just to see wholesale prices. Like you said im a small shop and dont order much, I mostly just want to price compare, and see what I may or may not be missing out on. I load up when I can for the $2 Michaels sale, which is often enough for me. Im just part time with no advertising. Word of mouth, shop on my property, supplement my income, type of thing. Been wanting to quit my job and just advertise and print. I have a learning curve to go though still though. IDK , just a lil scared I guess, I hold myself back. Do you like the Jerzees brand, or should I ask, What do you think of them? thanks.

Tax issues can be confusing but it’s about making sure someone is held responsible for the sales tax and reporting it as well as paying it. That’s all really. The pricing will depend on what you buy. Your tax number just assures the wholesaler that you are a business and if they don’t charge you tax, you will charge it, report it and pay it.

Jerzees is a decent brand. They tend to be more expensive than others like Gildan if we are talking about a standard tee shirt.

Don’t worry, everybody starts somewhere and yes, we are our own worst enemy sometimes. So with screen printing you have to dive in while being careful not to take jobs you really can’t do yet. Since you rely on word of mouth, you’ll want to keep your reputation spotless.
