Sizing Artwork For Different Tee Shirts & Pallets

Post by Catspit Productions »

This is another video I made because I am getting this question a lot. In the past few weeks I have gotten this question maybe 6 or more times. Here I explain how I might deal with different sized garments that may require different size prints. I tried to include everything in this video but it was hard to do since I jump around a bit and do some redundant reinforcement but here are the general breakdowns of what I might do with different sized garments.

Small through extra-large and perhaps double extra-large - Same size artwork. (No fee)
Triple extra-large and up - Larger sized artwork. (No fee)
Women’s wear and youth wear - smaller sized artwork with smaller pallets. (Perhaps a fee)
Infant wear and toddlers - very small artwork with special pallet set ups. (Extra fee)

Also remember that when you’re doing a multi colored job with say 4 colors then you may have no choice but to charge for upsizing or downsizing of artwork since there will be a lot of screen making to be done. A 4 color job with 3 different sizing’s would require 12 screens. So check out this video and see if it helps you out in sizing artwork for screenprinting tee shirts. Enjoy and thanks for watching!

What size in inches are your men's t-shirt graphics vs. your women's t-shirt graphics? How much smaller should the women's graphic be than the men's?

I can't answer that specifically since it depends directly on the size of the women's garments. There is no preset down sizing. On a 20x24 screen you only want to be about 12 or 13 inches wide maximum so for ladies garments you size down to the smallest sized ladies wear you have. 14 inches wide would be the ultimate max on a 20x24 screen. So the ladies art might be 6 to 8 inches wide or maybe smaller if the garment is very small. It's all about making it look good on the garment. So you have to judge for yourself how big or small to go..... unless the customer specifies art size. Then you have to let them know the women's garments need a smaller print.

But in the end it depends on the specific size of the garment so there are no standards for this.
