I am new to screen printing. I have purchased Adobe Photoshop 2017. Is this the correct software for screen printing? I have had lots of problems trying to create an underbase. could someone help me with this, or should i purchase a different software.

Hello there. usually we sue vector art with screen printing. So that would be Adobe Illustrator and/or Corel Draw. Photoshop is mainly for photographs and imagery. But if you know how to use it, you can do screen printing art with PS as well. I do not know PS that well however.

Basically you can create a very basic and simple under base by copying the entire piece of art to a new layer and then color it in black where you want the under base and make it white where you do not want any under base if that is the case. You will have to make sure it is placed in the appropriate position as to register with the other objects. Then it should print to film as a big open area of white under base for the colors to print on top of. Does that make any sense?

That looks like a simple three colour set up.
clip it and put it into photoshop and check the rbg.

You may have to print it off, draw the lines and scan back in for a perfect drawing.

You sure that isn't a copyrighted picture though?

Adobe have taken away my ability to use PSP and Illy with my upgrade to win11, bye bye CS5.

I@m not prepared to pay the cloud costs for these apps, so am looking at opensource apps of Inkscapeand Gimp.

I so with Jonathan did videos of these aps on his yout tube channel but after all these years of adobe I doubt he wants to jump ship :-)

I'm very old school and I really do not need the latest version of Adobe Illustrator. I have older versions like CS3 and CS5 on DVD. They have more functions than I'll ever use. So, if you can buy and older version on disc that has the code, it might be all you need.

Photoshop on the other hand looks like it has new automated functions for editing photos. That could be helpful.
