rough print

Post by t-addict »

hey, i'm just learning how to print , i can't figure out why the print on my shirts feels very rough. it feels very smooth on the test squares but rough on
the shirts and i'm doing everything the same . I am using black icc plastisol ink , i have tried it on 110,156, and 230 screen , keeps coming out feeling very rough
on shirts but feels fine on the test squares any suggestions , could it be the ink?

Can you upload an image of the print?

It's hard to say what is going on with little info. Is your off contact too high? Is the screen mesh tight?

Different substrates will print differently as well so on a test pellon it will look a lot different than on the shirt. And the knit of the shirt can affect the print result. The smoother the knit, the better the print.

hey jonathan
since i posted last, i set my off contact to 1/8 inch with a comfort color t shirt on platen, stirred my black ink , using a 70 duro sqeege , i flooded, printed and ran shirt thru 8 ft conveyer dryer , ink reaching around 330 to 340 degree . the print comes out feeling like sand paper, i tried different angles and pressures makes no difference . i've only used black ink because i read it is the easiest to learn with. so i decided to try some white ,( same set up as black ink) the first try flooded printed , lifted screen the print was very light ,s so flooded printed flashed (fpf) , i ended up fdf 4 times then ran thru the dryer , the print was smooth as silk. so guess what i tried , yes , the black ink same thing fpf 4 times then ran thru dryer smooth as silk. not sure is this normal . i am using plastisol international coatings ink , i have no idea what to do, from videos i have watched seems i'm not doing something right , cant figure out what , tks for your help and i will continue to watch your videos they are very informative. in your opinion what is the best high end plastisol ink for spot printing. tks

That's great. At least you found a way to improve the print surface.

I have heard a lot of people complaining about International Coatings for some reason. It's been around a while and a lot of people use it but I get a lot of people calling or emailing having trouble with it. You might want to try my inks which should cost less and perform better.

Perhaps it's just the ink, I'm not sure. When you print, flash, print, the print surface will get smoother naturally but the print will also feel much thicker and heavier.
