screen printing on mesh football bibs

Post by carol »

HI there
I am pretty new to the business and have learnt a lot from the you-tube videos. I have been asked by a local school (we live in the caribbean) to print their logo 2 colors black and pink onto some football bibs, not sure of the color but probably yellow. I will also need to print some text on the reverse. The material is a lycra and it is a mesh material, before i agree to take on the job can you point me in the right direction as to what types of inks (will plastisol work) to use and any issues i will find with the material being mesh. My first job was to print a company logo onto already made up life jackets, i ended up airbrushing the logo with an additive so i did not need to heat cure the ink. took me a month to figure out how to make it work!!!

Thanks for watching my videos.

So this depends on what material the bibs are made of. And it it's a mesh fabric it will be messy to print since some of the ink will pass through the mesh openings onto the pallet. You would need to use a "tear" sheet that you could possibly change and discard after each print.

Plastisol inks should have the elasticity needed for stretchy materials. If it's a stretchy Lycra that can take some heat then maybe a plastisol ink with stretch additive and nylon bonding agent. Lycra is a brand name so for clothing, "spandex" is usually mixed with cotton or polyester, and accounts for a small percentage of the final fabric, which therefore retains most of the look and feel of the other fibers.

BUT.... I would print a few and then test them for stretch and wash safeness.

My pleasure to help out.

Probably, yes. The best thing to do is call an ink manufacturer and ask them what ink to use for your specific substrate. I deal with textiles so all my inks are geared for fabrics and such. I don't know off the top of my head exactly what ink brand and type to suggest but there certainly is an ink that would be proper for that purpose.

There are 2 bigger suppliers of graphic industrial inks which is what you would be looking at.

Dubuit
Nazdar

Call one of those guys and tell them I sent you. Tell Nazdar they should let me sell their inks....LOL. So territorial. Technically I can sell Dubuit but I am not stocked or set up to do so at the moment.
