Rhino Dry Stencil

Here you can discuss any issues related to working with water based screen printing inks. This would include curing, heat setting, mixing colors, additives, brands, usages and much more.

Rhino Dry Stencil

Post by flrider02 »

I watched the video of you making the Rhino Tech dry stencil. Is there one showing you using it to screen print?

Also, can it be used with water based ink?
Thank you.

Yes, you can use it with water based inks. I have not yet filmed any printing with this stencil system yet. I have been a little busy printing to earn a living lately. I hope to come back to this eventually.

The water based ink won't eat the stencil ink?
Thanks

No, RhinoTech has tested with water based inks and you can print with it. You may get more prints off with plastisol inks but it will work well with water based inks too.

However I myself have not used the stencil yet for printing. I have a screen ready to do that with but I have been trying to do other videos lately. I’ll see what I can do.

I'm not a printer whiz so what would be the most important specs to look for when buying a laser printer?
Will I be able to print fine detail with the laser like I would with an Epson 1400 using Photoshop and AccuRip?
I use 156-230 mesh screens.
Thank you.

I don’t really have any advice for laser printers. I know the Oki Data and Go Uno units work well with heat transfers and such. RhinoTech sells them because they formulate their transfer papers with them.

I don’t know, I suppose that will depend on the laser printer you get.

I have the GO Uno from Rhino Tech and have gotten awesome detail with proper graphics (minimum of 300dpi) with the dry stencil. I have printed Arial font as small as about a font size of 6 and it was crystal clear! The printer makes a huge difference but talk with RT to see what works and doesn't. They are always very helpful. I invested in the dry stencil system because I found that the emulsion method in the home was not a good option for me, the dry stencil made much more sense. it has its limitations but I do this part time and specialize in small quantities and spot printing so it is PERFECT for my set up. Now if I go full time and get a full shop going in my future garage or something then I may go back to the traditional emulsion method but that is a ways down the road and the dry stencil has done the job so far with little complications.
